Eliyahu McClean and Sheikh Ghassan Manasra on Tour

The following series of videos are of the peace tour made by Eliyahu McClean and Sheikh Ghassan Manasra in the US at the end of 2011. I wrote about Sheikh Manasra in a previous post. Both these men are significant players in the grass-roots peace initiatives of Israel and Palestine.

“Video of our Nov. 7, 2011, Jerusalem Peacemakers event, featuring grassroots activists Eliyahu McLean and Sheik Ghassan Manasra: a Jew and a Sufi Muslim from Israel. The two presented “Stories of Hope from the Holy Land: Grassroots Arab-Jewish Peace Efforts That Do Not Make the News.” The event was co-hosted by The Israel Center and UAlbany-Hillel, at Chapel House.”

Leslie Hazleton’s delightful blog

Both humorous and insightful, Leslie Hazleton discusses Judaism and Islam in her irrepressible manner and from an agnostic perspective. I’ve been enjoying her writing for about a year now after hearing her speak on a TED talk about reading the Qur’an.  I’ve added the link to her blog in the blogroll. She calls herself an accidental theologist, something which she says came about after spending thirteen years living and working in Jerusalem. Head on over and see what you think.

A Video of Professor Paul Fenton on Similarities between Islam and Judaism

This talk was given at the 2007 Esoteric Quest for The Golden Age of Andalusia: Sufis, Kabbalists and Christian Philosophers in Medieval Spain. The symposium took place in Granada, Andalucia. Here, Professor Fenton speaks of fruitful exchanges between Sufis and Jewish mystics in medieval Al-Andalus and the continuing influence of that time. The sound quality isn’t wonderful on this video but it’s well worth watching.
